My name is Laura Kyle and I am currently living on Whidbey Island in Washington. I moved here in 2010 to further my knowledge of studio life through an assistantship with potter Robbie Lobell.  I throw all of my pots on an electric wheel and fire them in a propane fueled soda kiln. My work is highly functional. I am interested in how the effects of soda firing can enliven the surface of my pottery while leaving a calm simplicity.

I began working with clay in high school and have kept close to a studio ever since.  I was very fortunate to attend the Maine College of Art where I was given access to many mediums eventually choosing to focus on functional pottery.  During my time in school I learned how to fire kilns and I consider this one of the most crucial moments in my education.

During the the next few years I will continue to seek out kilns, mentors and studio space.  My goal is to pursue a life in pottery.
